Drug Charges Leave 2 In Difficult Predicament In North Carolina

If a traffic stop turns sideways, individuals in a vehicle could find themselves in a position to face criminal charges. This could happen if a driver is suspected of drunk driving, if officers suspect that there are illegal substances in a vehicle or for other reasons. If contraband substances are discovered, multiple parties in the vehicle could face drug charges.

It was recently reported that two individuals from a neighboring state were arrested in North Carolina after a traffic stop. Details regarding the situation were few, but it appears that the vehicle was stopped on Interstate 95 at approximately 4 p.m. The reason for the stop was not given in the report. A 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were in the vehicle.

Officers presumably searched the vehicle and allegedly uncovered 6.5 Kgs of cocaine. The incident resulted in both individuals being taken into custody. The man is facing allegations of keeping a vehicle for controlled substances, trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to traffic cocaine. The woman is also facing charges of trafficking cocaine and conspiracy to traffic cocaine. At the time of the report, both individuals were still in custody at a county detention facility.

These drugs charges could result in these individuals facing life-changing consequences if they are convicted. Undoubtedly, they want to do whatever they can to avoid negative outcomes to their cases, and they may be better able to do so after gaining information on their criminal defense options. Because they are from out of state, they may need assistance in understanding how North Carolina laws will affect their cases.
